Disqus verification emails never get sent

Problem

Can't use disqus to post comments anywhere.

Keep getting messages saying "site requires you to verify your email address before posting. Send verification email to a@b.c"

No verification emails are received for attempts to send the email from either disqus or the site.

Cause

The verification messages are misleading. Disqus now requires you to follow 3 topics before you can make comments.

Resolution

In disqus, follow 3 stupid topics that you're not interested in. Then you will be able to make comments.
